# Pause dashboard and export updates while you edit

> Stop a Mammoth View from sending half-finished data to dashboards and exports while you change its pipeline, check the result, then resume in one go.

A View that feeds dashboards or exports sends them new data every time its pipeline runs. Pause sends holds those places on the data they already have while you change the pipeline, then **Resume and send** gives them the finished result in one go. Mammoth offers it the first time you make a change in a visit, and it isn't offered in a View-only workspace.

## What Pause sends covers

Pause sends works on destinations with Auto-sync ON:

- export steps, such as Send to Dataset or a database export;
- dashboards that you can edit.

Pausing turns their Auto-sync off. Resuming turns it back on. A paused export or dashboard keeps its last data and gets no partial results while you edit.

## Pause sends when Mammoth asks

Mammoth asks the first time in a visit that you make a change that runs straight away, such as:

- applying a task from the Transform menu;
- **Apply now** in Draft mode;
- pasting, suspending, restoring or reordering tasks;
- applying cell edits or Column Manager changes;
- applying a text format from the column menu.

A dialog titled "Applying this change will send new data to:" lists each destination with its type. A dashboard shows its viewer count, for example "dashboard, 12 viewers". Below the list it asks "Do you want to pause it while you make and check your changes?"

| Button | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Pause and apply** | Turns Auto-sync off for the listed destinations, then applies your change |
| **Apply and send** | Applies your change and sends the new data as usual |
| X | Cancels. Nothing is applied. |

If other Views read this View through a Join or Lookup, or it feeds dashboards you can't edit, the dialog adds a line such as "Sales summary will update anyway." You can't pause those from here.

Once you answer, Mammoth doesn't ask again for this View until you leave and come back. In Draft mode, adding a task doesn't ask, because nothing runs until **Apply now**.

### Use the pause toggle in a task panel

When a task's panel is open, its footer can show the same choice as a toggle: "Pause updates to Sales dashboard while I edit". The toggle is on by default. **Apply** then follows the toggle, and no dialog opens.

## Check your changes while sends are paused

A banner at the top of the Pipeline panel names what is paused, for example "Sales dashboard isn't getting your changes while you edit." With several destinations it reads "3 places aren't getting your changes while you edit:" followed by their names.

Each paused step card shows **Paused while you edit** in its footer. Hover over it to see when the pause started, for example "Since 14:02". When more than one destination is paused, each card also has a **Resume** button to resume only that one.

Keep editing and check the result in the grid. You can preview the data at any task as usual. See [Edit, reorder and copy pipeline tasks](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/clean-and-shape/manage-tasks/).

## Resume sending to dashboards and exports

1. Select **Resume and send** in the banner.
2. Mammoth turns Auto-sync back on for every paused destination:
   - an export runs straight away if the View changed while it was paused;
   - a dashboard syncs with the View's latest data.
3. A message confirms it, for example "Sending resumed. 2 places get this view's latest data."

Turning Auto-sync back on another way also ends the pause for that destination, for example in **Auto-sync options** or with the step's own **Auto-sync** toggle.

## Leave a View while sends are paused

If you switch to another View or leave the data editor while sends are paused, Mammoth reminds you once. The dialog is titled "Still paused since 14:02:" (with your time), lists what is paused and asks "Resume before you go? It sends what changed since then."

| Button | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Resume and send** | Resumes every paused destination, then lets you leave |
| **Keep paused** | Leaves them paused. Their Auto-sync stays OFF until you resume. |

## Good to know

- The pause banner, card labels and reminder are kept in your browser. In another browser, or for a teammate, the same steps show **Auto-sync OFF**.
- To manage Auto-sync for every link of a View at once, use **Auto-sync options**. See [Views: create, rename and delete](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/organise/views/).

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
| --- | --- | --- |
| "Couldn't pause sending, so nothing was applied. Try again, or apply and send." | Mammoth couldn't pause every destination, so it paused none and didn't apply the change | Try again, or choose **Apply and send** |
| "Couldn't resume Sales dashboard. Try again." | One destination failed to resume. Its button changes to **Try again**. | Click **Try again** |
| A teammate sees **Auto-sync OFF** but no pause banner | Pause labels live only in your browser | Resume from your browser, or turn Auto-sync back on |
| A View still updated although you paused | It reads this View through a Join or Lookup, or feeds a dashboard you can't edit | These update anyway and can't be paused here |
| A dashboard still shows old data after you finished | Sends are still paused | Click **Resume and send** |
