# Mammoth FAQ: quick answers to common how-to questions

> Quick answers to common Mammoth questions: uploading data, pipelines, automations, sharing dashboards, the AI Agent, access and restoring deleted items.

Here are short answers to the most common "how do I" questions about Mammoth, grouped by area. Each answer gives the short click path and links to the full guide. For a problem rather than a question, start at [Troubleshooting](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/help/).

## Getting data in

### How do I upload a file?

Click **New dataset**, choose **Upload**, drop your file or click **Upload file**, and click **Submit**. See [Upload files](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/upload-files/). The limit is 50 MB per upload request on every plan, and a folder counts as one request. See [Limits and quotas](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/help/limits/#file-upload-and-data-import-limits).

### How do I paste data from a spreadsheet?

Click **New dataset**, choose **Paste from Clipboard**, then choose **Click to paste data** or press Ctrl+V. Name the dataset and click **Create new dataset**. See [Paste data](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/paste-data/).

### How do I import a file from a URL?

Click **New dataset**, choose **From URL**, paste the link into **Enter file URL**, and click **Read file**. Check the preview, then click **Create new dataset**. See [Import from a URL](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/import-from-a-url/).

### How do I send data to Mammoth from another system?

Use a webhook. Click **New dataset**, choose **Webhook**, enter a name, pick how often arriving rows are added under **Add new rows**, and click **Create new dataset**. The dataset's **Webhook** card then shows the URL and secret to send to. See [Receive data by webhook](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/webhooks/).

### How do I add new data to an existing dataset?

Click the dataset's row in the Data Library to open its panel, and click **Add data**. You can also choose **Add data** from the row's **⋯** menu. Datasets fed by a connection offer **Retrieve** instead, and datasets that follow a file link offer **Get the latest**. See [Add or replace data](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/add-or-replace-data/).

### How do I try Mammoth without my own data?

Choose **Sample Files** when you create a dataset. See [Create data with AI or a sample file](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/sample-and-ai-data/).

### How do I generate test data with AI?

Click **New dataset** and choose **Generate with AI**. Describe the data, set the row count to **User defined** (1 to 500 rows) or **Let AI decide**, click **Generate**, then click **Create new dataset**. See [Create data with AI or a sample file](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/sample-and-ai-data/).

### How do I connect a database or business app?

Click **New dataset**, choose **Connectors**, and pick your source in the launcher. The same flow works for every connector. See [Connect a database or app](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/connect-a-source/), and [Allow Mammoth through your firewall](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/network-requirements/) for databases.

## Transforming data

### How do I use AI to transform a column?

Open a View, click the blue **+** button (**Add a task**) in the action bar, and choose **Generative AI** in the **AI Powered** category. You don't need your own AI key: without one, Mammoth provides the key. See [Use AI on your columns](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/clean-and-shape/ai-on-columns/).

### How do I fix a pipeline task that failed?

Click **Fix error** on the failed task card. The task's panel reopens with the problem highlighted. See [Fix a failing step](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/clean-and-shape/fix-a-failing-step/).

### How do I stop bad data from moving down the pipeline?

Add a Data Check. Open the Transform menu, choose the **Controls** category, select **Data Check**, set up the check, and click **Apply**. See [Remove duplicates and check data](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/clean-and-shape/duplicates-and-checks/).

### How do I reuse a value across many filters?

Create a Parameter. Click **New Parameter** in the Data Library's Parameters list, then reference it in your pipeline conditions. Project Admins and Project Editors can create one. See [Parameters and snippets](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/organise/parameters-and-snippets/).

## Exploring data

### How do I get AI observations about my data?

Click **View Insights** on the right side of the View's action bar. See [View insights](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/explore/view-insights/).

### How do I check the quality of my data?

### How do I create an automation?

In the Data Library, open the **Automations** tab, click **New automation**, and pick one of the five types. See [Create an automation](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/automate/create/).

### How do I refresh a dataset on a schedule?

Create a **Dataset Refresh** automation, pick the datasets, and choose **On schedule** in the **Set Schedule** step. Only datasets connected to an API or database, or that follow the link they came from, can be refreshed. See [Refresh a dataset](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/automate/refresh-a-dataset/).

### How do I email a view to my team on a schedule?

Create a **Messaging** automation, fill in the recipients, subject and attached Views, and set the schedule. Click **Send test email** on the **Review & save** step before saving. See [Send messages](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/automate/messages/).

### How do I run an export at a fixed time every day?

Create a **Scheduled Export** automation. It runs the export steps already on your Views at the times you set, whether or not the data changed. See [Export on a schedule](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/automate/scheduled-export/).

### How do I merge incoming files into one dataset?

Create a **Data Consolidation** automation with a source folder and a destination dataset. See [Combine incoming data](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/automate/consolidate/).

### How do I run an automation now?
