# Mammoth limits and quotas: file size, rows, plans

> Every Mammoth limit: 50 MB uploads, XLSX and email row limits, Generative AI and AI Agent limits, schedules, name lengths, API rate limits and plan allowances.

Mammoth has two kinds of limit: fixed ones that apply to every workspace, and ones set by your plan. Fixed ones include the 50 MB upload limit and the 50,000-row XLSX download. Plan limits depend on your plan (Free, Starter, Team, Pro or Enterprise). See **Workspace Settings → Plan & Storage** for your workspace's allowance and per-dataset storage use. Other pages mention a limit where it matters and link here.

## File upload and data import limits

| Limit | Value | Applies to |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Size per upload request | 50 MB | Every plan. A folder upload counts as one request. See [Upload files](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/upload-files/) |
| BI workbook import size | 1 GB | Tableau `.twbx` and Power BI `.pbix` imports. See [Import a report](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/dashboards/import-a-report/) |
| Files per upload | 1,000 | Uploading files in one go. Files go up in groups of 50, with a 30-second pause between groups |
| Rows when generating a dataset with AI | 1 to 500 | The **User defined** row count in **Generate with AI**. See [Create data with AI or a sample file](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/sample-and-ai-data/) |
| PDF pages per document | 2,000 | PDF extraction reads up to the first 2,000 pages. See [Extract tables from PDFs](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/extract-from-pdfs/) |
| PDF pages extracted per month | Set by your plan (see [Plan allowances](#plan-allowances-free-starter-team-and-pro)) | Only extractions that use Mammoth's shared AI key count. Extractions with your workspace's own OpenAI key don't |
| From URL connection and response time | 9 seconds to connect, 27 seconds to respond | Fetching a file **From URL**. A slower server fails the fetch. See [Import from a URL](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/import-from-a-url/) |
| Webhook JSON keys turned into columns | 200 keys, each up to 100 characters | **Turn JSON keys into columns** on a webhook. Turning it on reads the keys in the latest 500 rows. See [Receive data by webhook](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/webhooks/) |

The 50 MB limit is the same on every plan. If an upload is larger, split or reduce it before uploading, or [connect the source instead](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/get-data-in/).

Pasting data from the clipboard has no row limit of its own. The pasted table is sent as a file, so the 50 MB upload limit applies. If the browser can't hand over the pasted content, Mammoth shows "Content too large to paste. Use the file upload option instead." Upload the file instead.

## Generative AI and join limits

| Limit | Value | Applies to |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Rows processed by Generative AI | 50,000 | The first 50,000 rows of the View |
| Characters per Generative AI answer cell | 300 | A longer answer fails with an excessive data generated error |
| Context columns for Generative AI | 20 | Selecting more than 20 columns shows "Maximum 20 columns can be selected." |
| Rows in a Generative AI preview | 10 | The **Preview** button |
| Join result size | 100,000 rows and 5 times the larger input | Mammoth blocks a join whose predicted result is over 100,000 rows and more than 5 times the row count of the larger of the two Views. See [Join two datasets on a shared column](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/clean-and-shape/join/) |

Generative AI runs use an external API key your workspace added, or a key Mammoth provides when the workspace has none. See [Use AI on your columns](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/clean-and-shape/ai-on-columns/).

## AI Agent limits

The AI Agent is available on Enterprise plans. See [What the AI Agent can do](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/agent/skills/).

| Limit | Value | Applies to |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Message length | 20,000 characters | One message to the agent |
| Pictures and documents per message | 5 | Pictures and documents together. Adding more shows "5 pictures per message. The rest weren't added." |
| Picture size | 2 MB, PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP | Larger pictures are scaled down before upload. Otherwise "This picture can't be used (PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP, up to 2 MB)." |
| Document size | 20 MB, PDF, Word or PowerPoint, no password | A document the agent reads in the chat. Otherwise "This file can't be read (PDF, Word or PowerPoint, up to 20 MB, no password)." |
| PDF pages the agent reads in a chat | The first 50 | A longer PDF says how many pages it will read |
| Questions per guest each month | 200 by default. Workspace Owners set 1 to 100,000 | Guests given access to Ask. Members aren't limited. Slack questions count. Today pages and the Today email don't. Resets on the 1st. See [AI Agent access](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/workspace/ai-agent-access/) |
| Alerts per person | 10 | Alerts in **Your agent**. Each can have up to 3 **Only for** filters. See [Your agent](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/agent/your-agent/) |

## Download and email row limits

| Limit | Value | Applies to |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Rows in an XLSX download | 50,000 | Views over this size show "XLSX download is not available for views over 50,000 rows. Try Download CSV option for large data". See [Download data](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/share-and-export/download/) |
| Rows attached to a Messaging email | 100,000 | The combined row count of all attached Views. See [Send messages](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/automate/messages/) |

## Shortest schedule interval by plan

| Unit | Choices in the scheduler |
| --- | --- |
| Days | Every 1 to 6 days |
| Weeks | Every 1 to 3 weeks, on the weekdays you pick |
| Months | Every 1 to 12 months, on the day of the month of the first run |
| Years | Every 1 to 5 years |

- New schedules offer **Day**, **Week**, **Month** and **Year** only, so you can't create an hourly schedule. A schedule saved earlier with hours or minutes keeps that unit when you edit it.
- Data Consolidation has no schedule. It runs when a file lands in the source folder.
- Your plan sets the shortest interval you can schedule (see the refresh frequency row in [Plan allowances](#plan-allowances-free-starter-team-and-pro)). Free can't schedule runs, Starter schedules weekly or less often, and Team and Pro daily or less often in the scheduler. See [Schedules and triggers](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/automate/schedules-and-triggers/).

## Name and text length limits

| Item | Maximum length |
| --- | --- |
| Project name | 63 characters |
| Workspace name | 63 characters |
| Dataset, View and column names | 300 characters |
| Folder name | 100 characters |
| Parameter and Snippet names | 100 characters |
| Automation name | 200 characters |
| Automation description | 2,000 characters |

## Dashboard limits

| Limit | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Files in one dashboard context | 20 files per context, 10 MB each. A dashboard can attach several contexts |
| Datasets behind one dashboard | 5. Each page reads one dataset, and every figure on a page reads that page's dataset. Add a page on another dataset with **New page from another table** in the **Data** tab |
| Smallest time step | A day. Time-based figures group by day, week, month, quarter or year |
| Rows in a table figure | 100 |

Dashboard context files accept PDF, Word, text, Markdown and CSV. See [Give the AI context](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/dashboards/context/).

## How long items stay in Trash

Items stay in Trash for 30 days by default, then Mammoth permanently deletes them. See [Get things back from Trash](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/organise/trash/).

## API rate limits per minute

Mammoth limits API requests per minute for each user session, or per IP address for requests without sign-in.

| Method | Requests per minute |
| --- | --- |
| GET | 600 |
| POST | 300 |
| PATCH | 60 |
| DELETE | 60 |
| Other methods | 600 |

Going over a limit returns HTTP status 429 with the message "Rate limit exceeded." and a `Retry-After: 60` header. Wait that many seconds before you retry. See [Error messages](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/help/errors/#api-rate-limit-rate-limit-exceeded-429) and [API errors](https://mammoth.io/docs/build/errors/).

## Plan allowances: Free, Starter, Team and Pro

These values come from the current self-serve plans. Enterprise plans and older plans are set by contract, so ask your account team for their values.

| Allowance | Free | Starter | Team | Pro |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Users | 1 | 2 | 5 | 15 |
| Included storage | 10 GB | 10 GB | 10 GB | 10 GB |
| Projects | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Pipeline versions | 10 | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Published dashboards | 3 | 25 | 100 | Unlimited |
| AI dashboard generations per month | 5 | 25 | 100 | 300 |
| Viewer Q&A questions per month | Not included | Not included | 1,500 | 5,000 |
| PDF pages extracted per month (Mammoth's shared AI key) | 50 | 200 | 500 | 1,000 |
| Refresh frequency | Manual only | Weekly or longer | Daily or longer | Daily or longer |
| Messaging schedules | Not included | 3 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Activity Log history | 7 days | 90 days | 1 year | 3 years |

Starter, Team and Pro can choose a larger storage size of 50 GB, 250 GB or 1,000 GB with **Change storage** on **Plan & Storage**. The Free plan's storage is fixed. Each self-serve plan has a fixed number of users: to add people beyond it, move to a plan with more users. See [Billing and plans](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/workspace/billing-and-plans/).

## What happens when you reach a plan limit

Buttons for features your plan doesn't include show a premium icon. When you click one, or reach a counted limit such as published dashboards, Mammoth stops the action and shows a prompt that depends on your role and plan.

| You are | What you see |
| --- | --- |
| Owner, self-serve plan | The plan picker, titled **Upgrade Plan** |
| Owner, Enterprise or contract plan | A dialog such as "Row-Level Security unavailable": "It looks like this feature isn't part of your current plan. Please get in touch to enable it." |
| Member, self-serve plan | A **Contact Owner to Upgrade** message naming the feature |
| Member, other plans | "Row-Level Security isn't part of your current plan. Please request a workspace owner to enable it." |

There's no in-app request form: a Member asks a Workspace Owner to change the plan. Inviting more people than your seats allow shows how many seats are left, for example "You only have 1 seat left in this workspace." See [Billing and plans](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/workspace/billing-and-plans/).

## What happens when storage is full

| Storage used | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| 80% or more | A bar at the top of the app shows how much you've used, for example "You have used 85% of your storage", with **Manage storage** |
| 100% | The bar reads "You have exceeded the storage limit on your plan." Actions that add data, such as adding a dataset or saving a new View, are blocked |

When storage is full, an Owner on a self-serve plan sees the **Upgrade Plan** picker. An Owner on an Enterprise or contract plan sees **Storage limit was reached**: "For increased storage, kindly reach out to our support team." A Member sees the storage message with a **Manage storage** button. Free space in **Manage storage** (see [Storage](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/workspace/storage/)), or see [Billing and plans](https://mammoth.io/docs/learn/workspace/billing-and-plans/).
