Jira MCP

Jira MCP: ask Claude or ChatGPT about your Jira issues.

Connect Jira to Mammoth, then add Mammoth to Claude or ChatGPT. Ask about bugs closed, time to resolve and open work by project in plain words. Mammoth calculates the answer, so the numbers are exact.

Your two options

Two ways to connect Jira to your AI assistant

Mammoth answers questions about Jira and your other data. Atlassian's own server works inside Jira. You can add both to the same assistant.

Option 1

Mammoth

Ask about Jira and your other data. Mammoth calculates the answer, so the numbers are exact. Included on every plan.

You ask
“How many bugs did each team close last month?”
Option 2

Atlassian's own server

Reads live Jira data. Creates and updates work items from the chat. Uses Rovo credits.

You ask
“Create a bug in the Web project for the broken login page.”

Option 1 · Mammoth

What you can ask about your Jira issues

Pick a question to see what your assistant gets back.

More questions, by team

Pick your team, then copy a question into Claude or ChatGPT.

ClaudeChatGPTVS Code
  • How many story points did each team complete per sprint?
  • How many bugs were opened and closed each week?
  • What's the average time to resolve, by issue type?
  • How many open issues does each assignee have?

Copy a question and paste it into your assistant once Mammoth is connected.

Option 1 · Mammoth

Ask about Jira and your other data together

Connect Jira and any of Mammoth’s 100+ other sources, like Zendesk, Salesforce or Stripe. Join them once in Mammoth, and your assistant can answer questions that cover all of them.

Example: Jira with Zendesk

Which product areas get the most support tickets and the most open bugs?

Zendesk holds the support tickets and Jira holds the bugs. Mammoth matches them on product area.

Option 1 · Mammoth

Set up Jira with Mammoth in three steps

  1. Step 1

    Step 2

    Add Mammoth to your assistant

Paste this address into Claude, ChatGPT or VS Code, then sign in with your Mammoth account.

Ask in Claude or ChatGPT, in plain words. Mammoth works out the numbers and your assistant replies with the answer.

What Mammoth reads from Jira

Mammoth's AI builds the Jira connection from Jira's API. It shows you each table it can read, with sample rows, and you tick the columns you want. Mammoth then updates the data every day.

Common questions about Jira MCP

Is there an official Jira MCP server?
Yes. Atlassian's Rovo MCP server lets your assistant search, summarise, create and update Jira work items. Each request uses Rovo credits. Use it to work inside Jira. Use Mammoth to ask questions across Jira and your other data.
Is Jira MCP free?
Atlassian's server uses Rovo credits from a shared pool, with allowances set by your Atlassian plan. Mammoth's MCP server is on every Mammoth plan, and building the Jira connector needs a paid plan.
How does my assistant get to my Jira data?
You connect Jira to Mammoth once. Mammoth keeps a copy of the data and updates it on demand or on a schedule. Your assistant asks Mammoth, not Jira.
Are the numbers right?
Yes. Mammoth calculates totals, counts and averages itself and gives your assistant the result. The AI model doesn't add up the rows.
Which AI assistants work with it?
Claude on the web, Claude Desktop and Claude Code, ChatGPT, and VS Code. Cursor can't sign in yet, so use the Mammoth CLI there.
What does it cost?
The MCP server is on every Mammoth plan, including Free. Connecting Jira needs a paid plan.
Do I paste a password or API key into the chat?
No. You connect Jira inside Mammoth and sign in to Mammoth from your assistant. No password passes through the model.
Can my assistant change things by mistake?
Every tool is labelled as read-only, a change you can undo, or one that deletes or sends data out. You can set your assistant to ask you before it uses anything that isn't read-only.

Ask your AI assistant about your Jira issues.
