What is a content audit?

A content audit lists every page on a site with how it performs, so each can be kept, updated or pruned. Pages losing clicks or ranking just off page one are the cheapest wins; pages nobody finds are candidates to merge or remove.

What it needs

Search Console data by page and date: clicks and impressions (and position)

Search Console pages
  • Page
  • Date
  • Clicks
  • Impressions
  • Position(optional)

The steps it runs

  1. 1Match columns
  2. 2Clicks now and before, and a call

Every step is an ordinary Mammoth step you can open and change.

Content audit: questions

How does it decide keep, update or prune?
Prune or merge: fewer than 10 clicks in both periods. Update: clicks down more than 20%, or an average position between 8 and 20, close enough to the top for a refresh to move it. Keep: the rest. The weeks and the click floor are settings.
Does the Search Console pages export work?
It needs a date on each row, which the Search Console connection gives. The pages export from the Search Console screen has no dates, so it cannot show a change.
Does it update by itself?
Yes. The template becomes an ordinary workflow in Mammoth. When your data refreshes, from a connector, a scheduled pull or a new file, every step runs again and the result table updates.
Can I change the steps?
Every step is an ordinary Mammoth step you can open and edit. Mammoth remembers which steps came from the template, so an update never overwrites your changes.
Do my column names have to match?
No. You point the template at your columns once. Mammoth suggests a match for each one and asks only when it is unsure.
