Explore & discover
Mammoth's exploration tools show you what is in a View before you build any transformation. They are for analysts who need to understand a new dataset, check its quality, or find a pattern. Start with Explore Cards if you just loaded data, or with the table in Where to start.
Tools in this section
Explore Cards
Explore Cards are interactive cards for the columns you choose to explore. Text columns show value distributions, numeric columns show histograms with statistics, and date columns show temporal patterns. Use them to spot quality issues, understand distributions, and investigate patterns through interactive filtering.
Metrics panel
The Metrics panel calculates KPIs and summary statistics. Create a metric from a column in one click (Sum, Average, Standard Deviation, Min, or Max), or write a formula or SQL expression. Metrics update as you apply explore filters.
Data Quality Report
The Data Quality Report is an automated quality assessment based on the DAMA framework. Identifies completeness gaps, casing inconsistencies, duplicates, and outliers across all columns, with recommended pipeline tasks you can build.
View Insights
View Insights are AI-generated plain-English summaries of the patterns and anomalies in your data. Useful for quick orientation to an unfamiliar dataset or generating narrative summaries of key findings.
Where to start
Pick a tool by what you want to do:
| Goal | Start with |
|---|---|
| I just loaded new data and want to understand it | Explore Cards |
| I need to check data quality before building a pipeline | Data Quality Report |
| I want a quick summary of key numbers | Metrics panel |
| I want AI to tell me what's interesting in my data | View Insights |
| I want to investigate a specific pattern or segment | Explore Cards, then filter interactively |
Next steps
After you explore your data, you can turn what you found into pipeline tasks. See Explore Cards—Interactions for how to convert exploration filters into pipeline tasks that run on every refresh. To choose between tools in more detail, see When to use each.
