Pause sends while you edit

A View that feeds dashboards or exports sends them new data each time its pipeline runs. When you are changing the pipeline, you may not want half-finished results to reach those places. Pause sends holds them on the data they already have until you have made and checked your changes. Then you resume and they get the new result.

Pause sends works on destinations with Auto-sync ON: export steps (such as Send to Dataset or a database export) and dashboards that you can edit. Pausing turns their Auto-sync off. Resuming turns it back on.

It is not offered in a View-only workspace.

When Mammoth asks

Mammoth asks the first time in a visit that you make a change that runs straight away, such as:

  • applying a task from the Transform menu
  • Apply now in Draft mode
  • pasting, suspending, restoring or reordering tasks
  • applying cell edits or Column Manager changes
  • applying a text format from the column menu

A dialog titled "Applying this change will send new data to:" lists each destination with its type. A dashboard shows its viewer count, for example "dashboard, 12 viewers". Below the list it asks "Do you want to pause it while you make and check your changes?"

ButtonWhat it does
Pause and applyTurns Auto-sync off for the listed destinations, then applies your change.
Apply and sendApplies your change and sends the new data as usual.
XCancels. Nothing is applied.

If other Views read this View through a Join or Lookup, or it feeds dashboards you can't edit, the dialog adds a line such as "Sales summary will update anyway." Those can't be paused from here.

Once you answer, Mammoth doesn't ask again for this View until you leave and come back. While Draft mode is on, adding a task to the pipeline doesn't ask, because nothing runs until Apply now.

The toggle in the task panel

When a task's panel is open, its footer can show the same choice as a toggle: "Applying sends new data to Sales dashboard. Pause it while I make and check my changes". The toggle is on by default. Apply then follows the toggle and no dialog opens.

If pausing fails

If Mammoth can't pause every destination, nothing is paused and the change is not applied. The message reads "Couldn't pause sending, so nothing was applied. Try again, or apply and send."

While sends are paused

A banner at the top of the Pipeline panel names what is paused, for example "Sales dashboard isn't getting your changes while you edit." With several destinations it reads "3 places aren't getting your changes while you edit:" followed by their names.

Each paused step card shows Paused while you edit in its footer. Hover it to see when the pause started, for example "Since 14:02". When more than one destination is paused, each card also has a Resume button to resume just that one.

Keep editing and check the result in the grid. You can preview the data at any task as usual.

Resume sending

Select Resume and send in the banner. Mammoth turns Auto-sync back on for every paused destination:

  • An export runs straight away if the View changed while it was paused.
  • A dashboard is synced with the View's latest data.

A message confirms it, for example "Sending resumed. 2 places get this view's latest data."

If a destination can't be resumed, the banner says "Couldn't resume Sales dashboard. Try again." and its button changes to Try again.

Turning Auto-sync back on another way, for example in Auto-sync options or the step's own Auto-sync toggle, also ends the pause for that destination.

Leave a View with sends paused

If you switch to another View or leave the data editor while sends are paused, Mammoth reminds you once. The dialog is titled "Still paused since 14:02:" (with your time), lists what is paused, and asks "Resume before you go? It sends what changed since then."

ButtonWhat it does
Resume and sendResumes every paused destination, then lets you leave.
Keep pausedLeaves them paused. Their Auto-sync stays OFF until you resume.

Good to know

  • The pause banner, card labels and reminder are kept in your browser. In another browser, or for a teammate, the same steps simply show Auto-sync OFF.
  • A paused export or dashboard keeps its last data. It does not get partial results while you edit.
  • To manage Auto-sync for every link of a View at once, use Auto-sync options.
