Fix a blank, stale or slow Mammoth dashboard
Most dashboard problems (blank screens, stale data, AI build failures, sharing errors, layout and phone display) have a quick fix, listed below by symptom. Most checks start from the dashboard's Updates window, which you open from the library or from the editor's state line. For how dashboards work, see Build dashboards.
Dashboard not loading or showing a blank screen
Work through these checks in order.
Check Mammoth's platform status
Visit https://status.mammoth.io. If there is an active incident affecting dashboards, wait for the incident to resolve.
Check that the source Views still exist
A dashboard reads from one or more Views. The dashboard's Updates window lists each source under Sync new data. If a source View was deleted, or a column a chart uses was removed, charts built on it stop showing that data. When a card's numbers can't be fetched, the board shows a dash in those cards with a notice and a Try again button.
- Open Updates and note the sources.
- Open each View in its project.
- Confirm it still exists and still has the columns the charts use.
See See the data behind a dashboard.
Check your access to the dashboard
Everyone in the dashboard's project has access to it, and people outside the project can be invited as viewers. If you were removed from the project, or removed as a viewer, the dashboard no longer opens for you. Mammoth shows "This dashboard may have been removed or you no longer have permission to view it."
Ask a Workspace Owner or the dashboard's editor to check your access. See Who can see and edit a dashboard.
Hard refresh the browser
Press Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac) to bypass the browser cache. If the dashboard loads after this, a stale cached state was the cause, and you need do nothing more.
Dashboard showing old or stale data
A dashboard has a draft and a published version. New data from the dashboard's source Views comes into the draft when you sync. Viewers only see it once the draft is published.
To get fresh data into your dashboard:
- Make sure the underlying dataset and View are up to date. If the dataset refreshes on a schedule (through an automation), wait for the refresh to finish, or run it by hand. See Refresh a dataset.
- Open the dashboard's Updates window and click Sync on each source marked New data. Or turn on Sync automatically so new rows come into the draft whenever the View's pipeline runs.
- Publish the dashboard. Or turn on Publish new data automatically so new data goes live as soon as it syncs. Layout and theme changes still wait for you to publish.
If the draft is up to date but viewers still see old values, the dashboard has unpublished changes. Publish it. See Sync new data into a dashboard.
Dashboard still shows old data after publishing
The source View has current data and the dashboard is published, but it still shows old values. Check the dashboard's filters. A Chips or Checklist filter can open with values already selected (Starts showing), which hides the rest of the data. Edit the filter in the editor, then publish. See Open a dashboard already filtered with starting values.
AI dashboard build failed or took too long
You build a dashboard by picking an idea or describing it on the Create page. See Create a dashboard.
Building can take a while for wide or complex Views. If it fails, try again. If it keeps failing:
- Reduce the number of columns in the source View. AI generation works best with focused Views.
- Break a wide View into several narrower Views.
- Simplify the prompt. Be specific about the few charts you want rather than asking for a complete analysis.
AI built the wrong chart types or unexpected data
The AI generates charts from the column names and data types in your View. If the output doesn't match your intent:
- Refine your prompt. Be explicit: "Show me a line chart of revenue by month and a bar chart of units sold by product category" gives better results than "analyze my sales data."
- Check column names. Columns named
col1,field_3, or other generic names confuse the AI. Rename them in the View's pipeline. See Rename, format and sort columns. - Check data types. If a date column was imported as text, the AI can't create time-series charts from it. Fix the column type in your pipeline first. See Column types.
Can't find the Share button
Click Share in the editor toolbar. Or select the dashboard in the Dashboards library, open the Access tab in its details panel, and click Share. You need edit access to the dashboard to publish or share it.
Published-dashboard limit reached
Your plan sets how many dashboards can be published at once. See Limits and quotas for each plan's number.
When you reach the limit, Mammoth shows "Your plan's published-dashboard limit is reached. Unpublish one or upgrade to publish this dashboard." Unpublish a dashboard you no longer share, or ask a Workspace Owner to change the plan.
Shared dashboard link not working for recipients
When a shared dashboard link fails for the recipient, check the access type:
| Access type | Common cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Anyone with the link | The dashboard was unpublished. | Republish it. The same link works again. |
| Sign-in required | The recipient isn't in the dashboard's project and wasn't invited. | Invite them as a viewer, or change the access type to Anyone with the link. |
| Anyone with the link and password | The password was changed after you shared it, or the recipient doesn't have it. | Send recipients the current password. To set a new one, use Change password in Share (8 to 128 characters). |
See Publish and share a dashboard for each access type.
Charts look uneven or in the wrong place
Cards on a page line up on their own: every row fills the width, and the cards in a row share one height. To change the arrangement:
- Open the dashboard in the editor.
- Drag a card to move it. The other cards make room.
- Drag the edge between two cards to resize them.
- Publish to put the layout change live. Publish new data automatically only publishes data refreshes: the editor shows Layout changes need Publish until you do.
Moving cards never changes your data or wording.
Dashboard fonts, colours or spacing look wrong
If a dashboard looks inconsistent:
- Open the dashboard in the editor.
- Open the Design tab and choose a style under System styles, or one of your workspace styles.
- Publish the dashboard so viewers see the new style.
See Change a dashboard's theme for the full list of styles.
Dashboard looks wrong on a phone
A published board opened on a phone uses the phone layout, and the filters move into a drawer opened from Filters. Build the layout on desktop and check how it reads on a smaller screen with the editor's Mobile preview. See What viewers see.
For dashboards that people mostly read on a phone, place the most important charts at the top of the page. They are then the first thing a phone reader sees.
Dashboard is slow to update
A dashboard doesn't query its Views each time someone opens it. New rows come into the dashboard's draft when it syncs, and viewers see them once the draft is published. So slow updates usually come from the source View's pipeline or from the sync, not from the page itself.
To find the cause:
- Open Updates and check each source under Sync new data: when it last updated, and whether it shows New data or Up to date.
- If the source View's pipeline is slow, open the View and check its row count and its heaviest tasks. See Speed up pipelines and connectors.
- If new data is waiting (New source data is waiting to sync.), click Sync on each source marked New data, then publish.
To make it faster:
- Add filters to the View to reduce its row count before the dashboard syncs it. See Filter rows.
- Use aggregated Views (group and summarise data in the pipeline) rather than passing raw row-level data to dashboards. See Group, pivot and unpivot.
- If the dashboard shows key metrics and aggregate charts, the View should contain aggregated data, not transaction-level rows.
