Mammoth trial ending, plan limits and view-only mode

When a trial ends without a paid plan, the workspace moves to the Free plan and a dialog shows what changed and what is over the new limits. You can reopen it with See what changed on Workspace Settings → Plan & Storage. Workspace Owners resolve the flagged items or upgrade; Members are asked to contact an Owner.

Follow the trial countdown

A new Mammoth account's first workspace can start on a Pro trial. While the trial runs:

  • The sidebar shows Pro Trial under the workspace name and a countdown of the time left. It reads Ends today on the last day.
  • Plan & Storage shows a banner with the trial end date and the plan the workspace moves to without a choice, for example "Your Pro trial ends Nov 18. Without a plan, the workspace moves to Free." It has a Choose a plan button.
  • Near the end of the trial, Owners also see a bar across the top of the app, for example "Pro trial ends today. Choose a plan to keep Pro, or the workspace moves to Free on Nov 18, 2026." Click Choose a plan to open the picker, or close the bar. It comes back once more on the last day.

Members who click a plan button see "Ask a workspace owner to choose a plan". To choose a plan, see Billing and plans.

What changes after the trial

The next time you open the workspace after the trial ends, a dialog explains what changed, titled for example "Pro trial ended. Free plan is now active." You can reopen it any time with See what changed on Plan & Storage. The same dialog opens when a workspace is over its plan's limits after any downgrade.

The Summary tab

  • Needs your attention: anything the workspace uses that is over the new plan's limit or not included in it, each with a Resolve button.
  • What changes after the trial: a table with Feature, During trial (Pro plan) and Now (Free plan) for users, storage, projects, dashboards, custom roles, connectors, exports, automations, Row-Level Security, dashboard branding, Viewer Q&A and the activity log. Hover a row's info icon for detail.
RowWhat changes on a smaller plan
Users"Extra members are read-only": users invited during the trial get a read-only experience
Custom rolesWhether the new plan includes custom roles (they're on Pro). On a plan without them, New Role in Roles & Permissions shows the upgrade prompt
Connectors"Premium connections suspended": cloud warehouses, cloud storage and REST API connections stop
Exports"Other destinations suspended": exports beyond CSV and Excel download stop
Automations"Automations using them are suspended": for example dataset refresh, data consolidation, file collection and messaging
Row-Level Security"Every authenticated viewer sees the whole dashboard". Viewer assignments are kept for when you upgrade
Dashboard brandingPublished dashboards show the Mammoth mark again

Resolve items over the plan's limit

A banner at the top reads, for example, "Your workspace is limited until this is sorted. Resolve the 2 items flagged below, or upgrade to keep everything as it is." Each flagged item gets its own section, marked To resolve or Resolved in the side list.

SectionHow you resolve it
Team membersRemove members until you're within the seat limit. You and the last owner are always kept
StorageDelete datasets until Using is under Limit. Each dataset links to the Data Library, where you can remove single batches instead
ProjectsDelete projects until you're within the limit. Deleting a project is permanent
DashboardsUnpublish or Delete published dashboards. Keep 3 most recent (with your plan's number) unpublishes the rest in one click
REST API sourcesDelete the sources
Connectors, exports, automations, parameters and checkpoints not on your planFollow the section's button (for example Manage connections) to remove them where they live, then come back and click I've removed them — re-check

Each count shows "2 over the limit" until it's resolved. Undo reverses a choice before you apply it.

Apply the limits or upgrade

ButtonWhat it does
UpgradeOpens the plan picker so you can keep everything
Continue with limitsShown while items are unresolved. Closes the dialog and leaves the workspace limited. The dialog opens again on reload or when you try a blocked action
Continue on FreeShown once nothing is left to resolve. Opens Here's what will happen if you chose anything to delete or unpublish. Otherwise it closes the dialog

Here's what will happen lists what is kept (unpublished dashboards can be published again after an upgrade) and what is deleted for good. Click Delete and continue (or Continue on Free if nothing is deleted) to apply, or Back to change your choices.

On a contract plan, the dialog is titled "Your plan does not include everything this workspace uses." There's no Upgrade button: use Start resolving, or Contact your account manager to add items to your contract.

Why a workspace is in view-only mode

When a self-serve subscription is cancelled, Mammoth moves the workspace to the Free plan. The workspace is view-only until that move completes. It's also view-only when the first payment for a subscription expires unpaid. You can browse your data, but buttons that change it are turned off.

When you open the workspace, Mammoth shows a page titled "Your free trial has ended" with "Choose a plan to pick up where you left off".

OptionWhat it does
Plan cards and Continue →Pick a plan and go to checkout. Picking Free takes you straight back into the workspace
Extend your trialUnder "Not ready yet?". Opens a page to book a call with Mammoth
Continue in view-only mode →Opens the workspace read-only for the rest of your browser session

While the workspace is view-only, a red bar at the top reads "You're in view-only mode. Choose a plan to continue working", with Choose a plan. If the workspace is scheduled for deletion, the bar also counts down the days until your data is deleted.

Fix a failed payment (Payment Update Required)

When a payment fails on a self-serve plan, Mammoth opens a Payment Update Required page: "Your payment method may have expired, been declined, or there might be a temporary issue with your account."

Try Existing PaymentCharges your saved card again. Success shows "Payment successful! Your subscription is now active." and takes you back into the workspace. Failure shows "Payment failed. Please update your payment method and try again."

Why a workspace is read-only on a contract plan

A workspace billed by invoice becomes read-only while an invoice is overdue.

WhoWhat they see
Owner, billed by MammothPayment overdue: "An invoice for this workspace is overdue. Until it is paid, the workspace is read-only." with Pay invoice (opens the invoice in a new tab) and I've paid — check again. If the payment hasn't arrived: "We have not received the payment yet. Please try again in a few minutes."
Owner, billed by a partnerWorkspace is read-only: the billing issue is with your partner. Contact them to restore access
MembersWorkspace is read-only: "This workspace is read-only until its billing is settled. Please ask your workspace owner or admin."

When a feature isn't on your plan

Buttons for features your plan doesn't include show a premium icon. What happens when you click one depends on your role and plan. The examples below use Row-Level Security:

You areWhat you see
Owner, self-serve planThe plan picker, titled Upgrade Plan, so you can move to a plan that includes the feature
Owner, Enterprise or contract planA dialog such as "Row-Level Security unavailable": "It looks like this feature isn't part of your current plan. Please get in touch to enable it." Contact your Mammoth account team
Member, self-serve planA Contact Owner to Upgrade message: "Contact the Workspace owner to explore plan upgrade options, granting you access to Row-Level Security."
Member, other plans"Row-Level Security isn't part of your current plan. Please request a workspace owner to enable it."

The same prompt appears when you reach a counted limit, such as published dashboards. There's no in-app request form: a Member asks an Owner directly. For each plan's limits, see Limits and quotas.

When storage is full, a similar set of prompts appears. See What happens when storage is full.
